The Community of Hawks Ridge
Beautiful by Nature
Hawks Ridge is located on northwest Edmonton’s 215th street in the pristine enclave of Big Lake. We chose to build new front-garage homes here specifically because its design integrates the area’s unspoiled natural reserve with the community’s master plan. New homes in Hawks Ridge offer everything you need today, and are built around a sustainable plan for tomorrow.

Country Living and Lakeside Bliss: Hawks Ridge at Big Lake
Alberta’s Provincial parks offer endless opportunities to experience Mother Nature’s very best in safe and protected environments, inviting us to slow down and reconnect. We can all appreciate the joy of hearing birds chirping, taking a big breath of fresh air along a forested trail, or watching the fish splash through the crystal water of a lake.
Now, imagine a community that captures the peacefulness and serenity of a Provincial park without having to compromise on the luxuries of city life. That reality is Hawks Ridge at Big Lake.
In this quick guide, you’ll discover the highlights of this vibrant, back-to-nature community with urban conveniences you’ll love.
Getting Back to Basics
A vibrant and ecologically sensitive community, Hawks Ridge shares its space with the rolling hills, valley ravines, and Big Lake shorelines that characterize the natural beauty of the Lois Hole Centennial Provincial Park that sits just a short bike ride away.
One of Hawks Ridge’s natural highlights is the extension of a green “spine” (ravine) from Big Lake right into the neighbourhood, with wooded areas and wetlands that are home to birds and friendly critters of all kinds.
20 hectares of community land are dedicated to Environmental Reserves, 17 hectares to Natural Areas, and an amazing 10 hectares to parks and open space. Many of these parks are located in areas that take advantage of the views towards the green “spine” and Big Lake, so grab your morning coffee, throw on your sweater, and take it all in.
The community is walking distance from Big Lake, so there’ll be plenty of opportunities to take out the canoe or head out for a morning paddle in a kayak. For anglers old and young, Big Lake is home to Pike, Walleye, and Perch and has a fishing season that typically extends from May 15th through March 31st.
There are kilometers of awesome terrain and paved trails to explore on bikes or with friends, and loads of easily accessible open spaces that will become your favourite hangouts.
Keep Your Finger on the Pulse
Getting to and from downtown Edmonton is a breeze and only takes 20 minutes each way by car. That’s convenient for your morning commute – but you won’t have to travel far to find the amenities you’ll use every day.
A small commercial area is planned for the eastern portion of the Hawks Ridge community. Until then, keeping your shelves stocked and your family entertained is as easy as getting in your car and hopping on the Yellowhead Hwy and head towards the city center. From the Yellowhead Hwy, you can take 170th St south, and just like that, you will have entered the urban jungle of Edmonton’s west, only eight kilometers from Hawks Ridge. Grocery stores, gas stations, medical clinics, pharmacies, libraries, and all essential services can be found in this area.
For the real die-hard shoppers in the family, travelling another five minutes down 170th St will lead you to the pinnacle of retail shopping in Canada, West Edmonton Mall. At 5.3 million square feet, West Edmonton Mall is home to more than 800 stores and services, including nine world-class attractions (a water park, amusement park, aquarium, and skating rink to name just a few), two hotels, and over 100 dining venues.
A school site has been proposed in the eastern half of the Hawks Ridge neighbourhood to accommodate future Public Elementary and Junior High schools.
