How To Patch Dry Wall

Home School Care & Maintenance

1. The tools you’ll need for this repair are: work knife, drywall trowel, sandpaper block (180 grit) and drywall compound/filler

2. Find the area you wish to fill and use your knife to cut out an area around the spot

3. Remove any excess paper/material around the edges

4. Use the backside of the knife to smooth out the edges of the damaged area

5. Apply drywall compound to your trowel

6. Run the trowel, with the compound on it, over the damaged area – filling the hole with compound in an X pattern. Starting from the top left moving to bottom right – then from the top right to bottom left of the area

7. Wait for the compound to dry and repeat this process 2-3 more times

8. Use your 180 grit sandpaper to smooth out the now dry compound until it’s flush with the rest of the wall

9. Paint over the area as needed
