Located in the southeast quadrant of Calgary, the community of Legacy is situated on 1,100 acres of the prime real estate of which 300 acres are part of a natural environment reserve. The views from the rolling hills of the community are breathtaking and of course, the Rocky Mountains await close by, providing plenty of winter and summer activities and sightseeing opportunities for visitors and family trips.
The Bow River Valley completes the picturesque landscape. Calgary’s downtown core is only a short drive away and accessible in about 20-30 minutes, depending on the traffic.
There are several schools in the making. When all are complete, the Legacy community will have an Elementary School, 2 Junior High Schools, and a High School. The schools sit on land complete with playing fields, soccer pitches, baseball diamonds with a running track at each of the junior high schools.
The nearest full-service hospital is located just north of Legacy in south Calgary (South Health Campus). A new hospital that opened in 2013 to serve southern Alberta, the SHC has a full range of services from neurology to nutrition, pediatric care, and mental health.
Currently under construction, the Legacy Shopping Centre will contain 800,000 square feet of retail space with major retailers expected soon. In the same vicinity as the shopping centre is access to banking, casual and fast food dining as well as grocery stores and convenience stores.
There are several recreation centres in the vicinity that cater to hockey, skating and other sporting activities for the residents to take advantage of. There are plans to build two large Recreation Centres complete with aquatics, gymnasiums, community centre facilities, and a library.
One of the more important features that went into the planning of the community is the myriad of nature trails. There are over 15 kilometres of walking trails and paths all connected with each other without the need to use the streets.
As well as walking paths there are plenty of other activities to fill anyone’s exercise regime. If golf is the game you want there are four golf and country clubs in the area including Heritage Pointe Golf and Country Club located right in the northern section of Legacy. If horse riding appeals to you there is an Equestrian Centre just a short drive away. No area would be complete without a fitness centre, and Legacy boasts several nearby.
Legacy is host to one of the first planned community gardens which will add to the whole ecologically friendly feel of the neighbourhood. The whole plan revolves around green space, getting back to basics, away from the crowds of the city.
