This is particularly important if you’re landscaping on a budget. There are tons of places to get free plants, tools and furniture for your garden if you know where to look. Sometimes the city will give away things like mulch and trees because they want to beautify the area. You can also try websites like Craigslist and Kijiji, where people are constantly trying to get rid of things like old plants and pots.

3. Purchase your plants, trees and shrubs in the fall.
Buying your greenery during the off-season can save you a ton of money as they often go on sale for 50-75% off retail. Just because most people begin to plant their shrubs at the beginning of spring doesn’t mean you have to. Many plants can survive the cooler fall temperatures and are perfectly fine to be planted later in the year.

Use fertilizer in the soil to provide your plants with the nourishment they need to flourish and grow into the beautiful garden you’ve been dreaming of.
