Home School Care & Maintenance

This should be done at least once every 12 months or when the smoke detector beeps once every 15-30 seconds (this beep indicates a battery replacement is needed).

  1. Locate the smoke detector.
  2. Use a small step stool or step ladder to reach the smoke detector.
  3. Using your fingers open the hatch that is labeled battery.
  4. Remove the battery taking note of which side the positive and negative terminals are on.
  5. Replace the battery with a new (not used) 9 Volt battery placing the positive and negative terminals on the same side as the removed battery.
  6. Close the battery hatch.
  7. Press and hold the test button on the unit until the smoke detector goes off.
