Starting the journey
Buying your first home is an exciting time but can also be stressful as everything is new and there can be a lot of unknowns in the process. We have put together this article as a rough introduction into the process so you can feel a little more at ease as you go through things.
This is typically the first step in the home buying process. Once you know what amount you qualify for, you can start looking for the home that is right for you and your budget. Check out our different communities here.
After you get your preapproval you will then be able to narrow down what type of home you are looking for based on your budget. From there you can begin looking at different areas and seeing what community is the best fit for you.
After you have selected the community you are interested in you can then visit the showhome to see what floor plan you like, different options you are interested in, and choosing the lot for your home. Once all of this info is finalized in your meeting you can then sign your purchase contract to start the build process.
This can be the toughest part as you will have to wait for your home to be built before you can move into it but this is also a very exciting time as you can see your dream come to life! We will send updates on the progress throughout the build and you can also speak with your area manager to arrange visits throughout the build to check out the progress in person.
At last! The day has finally come for you to move into your new home! We will do a formal walkthrough with you a week prior to and on possession day to go over all parts of your house and answer any questions you may have. We also have our warranty team to support you with any concerns you have. Enjoy this moment. You earned it!
- In March of 2026, the Canadian Governmet passed a bill that eliminates the GST for qualifying first-time buyers on new builds up to $1 million, with a scaled phase-out for homes between $1 million and $1.5 million. Maximum savings are up to $50,000.
While we cover a good amount in this article there are still lots of parts of the process that you may have questions about so you can check out our Morrison Home School here. Also if there is anything that we can help you with just give us a shout! We are there to help you.
