Fixing a Furnace or Hot Water Tank That Shut Off

Keeping your intake and exhaust vents clear is essential for maintaining proper airflow and ensuring your home’s mechanical systems function correctly.

To do this, go outside and locate the intake and exhaust vents. Remove any snow or ice buildup blocking the pipes, then use a screwdriver or a similar long tool to clear any remaining obstruction inside the vent. After clearing the vents, wait 5–10 minutes for your mechanical room appliances to restart automatically.

Regularly checking and maintaining these vents can help prevent system shutdowns. For more details, refer to your Homeowner Guide.
