Opening a Sink Catch

If you drop something down the sink or notice it’s draining slowly, addressing the issue promptly can prevent further problems.

Start by using a cloth or sponge to soak up any water in the sink. Squeeze the water into a bucket, then open the cabinets under the sink and place the bucket beneath the P-trap, which holds water even when functioning properly. Use a wrench or your hands to loosen the top coupling above the P-trap by turning counter-clockwise, and repeat this process on the back coupling nut. Once loose, pull the P-trap down into the bucket, allowing any trapped water to drain. Check the trap for debris or items and remove them as necessary.

Reattach the P-trap by sliding it back onto the drain pipe, ensuring the back collar aligns properly, and secure the coupling nuts by turning them clockwise. Leave the bucket in place while you turn the water on to check for any leaks. Once everything is dry and leak-free, remove the bucket.

For best results, regularly inspect your sink’s drainage system for any potential blockages.
