Preparing your home for winter by shutting off and draining the exterior water line helps prevent freezing and damage to your plumbing.
To begin, locate the water line in your basement mechanical room labeled “Lawn Service Shut Off & Drain.” Turn the valve so that the wings are perpendicular to the water line. Then, go outside and open the hose bib(s) to allow the water to drain, leaving the bib open throughout the winter. Return to the basement, open the bleeder cap, and use a cup or container to catch the water that drains. Once fully drained, close the bleeder cap securely.
This simple task helps protect your plumbing during the colder months. For more details, refer to your Homeowner Guide.
